Enzo

My name is Enzo and, as you can see, am a handsome 3 year old male. I have been in a foster home for several months while getting all medical needs addressed and am now ready to move forward to find my forever home!
Here is a bit about me from my foster home...
---
Enzo is a very sweet and friendly basenji. He loves to be wherever his family is and wants to say hi to all people and dogs. He hasn't had a formal play date but looks like he really wants to play with other dogs (as soon as we leave the house for walks he pulls to the two houses that have dogs out front). Based on this and his energy level, I think he would be great in a family with another dog.
He loves eating time and treats. He also loves having a place to run around for zoomies. And his favorite pastime is hanging out in the back yard and chasing squirrels when they dare to enter the yard.
He does have lots of energy and some anxiety but it can be managed. Walks (one long one or a few short ones throughout the day) help significantly although he does need to learn to walk better on a leash so will need some training. We haven't left him alone much, but when we have, he doesn't love being in his crate but will tolerate it.
Due to his anxiety and he can nip when he plays, he would probably be best in a house with no small children. While he loves people, he may be slow to trust a new family so will require some patience.
----

Enzo comes from a home with no other pets. We hope to place him in a home with another friendly dog, as he has played well with the past owners friends dogs and would benefit from the companionship of another canine. He has not been tested with cats. His energy level is high and will need a home that can provide adequate exercise and a securely fenced non-climbable yard.
Enzo is cautious when meeting new people in the confines of his foster home. He does warm up to people when approached slowly. He is generally more comfortable with women but does come around to men when given time and space. He startles with sudden movements, so a Basenji savvy home with no small children is a must.
After arriving at Colorado Basenji Rescue Enzo was neutered. One testicle had not descended, the surgery was successful. A small growth was removed from his scrotum and was sent for testing. Two subsequent tests concluded that the growth was well removed and should not become an issue in the future.
Enzo’s DNA test for Fanconi is pending. He is current on rabies and DHPP vaccines and is microchipped.
Enzo weighs 24.4 pounds. Due to his anxiety with new situations, long distance transport is not recommended for Enzo.

Stevie!

UPDATE ON STEVIE!!
Introducing Stevie, a delightful black and white female Malinois mix available for adoption!
Stevie is a 6 year old girl who exhibits strong Malinois characteristics, very intelligent and eager to learn, with an abundance of energy. She is currently working with Grace Dog Training and Behavior to improve her focus and self control. Stevie is making good progress with Ana, her trainer, and will need a firm commitment from her new owner to continue training to give her the opportunity to be the “best dog ever”

Stevie weighs 44 pounds and could stand to lose a few pounds with a good exercise program. She is current on vaccines and received a dental in 2025. She is microchipped and spayed. Stevie is crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night.
A few notes about Stevie’s past. She was relinquished to Colorado Basenji Rescue by an owner while quite young and adopted through Colorado Basenji Rescue (although Stevie is NOT a Basenji, but a Malinois mix according to the DNA test.) The adopter eventually had back surgery and due to Stevie’s energy level was unable to keep her. She is in the care of Colorado Basenji Rescue while she waits for her new owner to step forward.

Stevie is a delightful girl! For more information about Stevie you can contact Peggy at inquiry@coloradobasenjirescue.org or by phone at 303 455-8216 (no texting on this landline but voicemails will be returned.
